How to Make a Karaoke Video: A Step-by-Step Guide

Making a karaoke video is easier than it looks. Import a song, paste in the lyrics, sync them to the beat, and export — with EasyKara's free browser-based editor, you can go from a plain audio file to a finished word-by-word synced karaoke video in under ten minutes, no video-editing experience or software installation required. This guide walks through every step, from opening the editor to exporting your final MP4.

Step 1: Open EasyKara — web or desktop app

Go to easykara.com. You can start syncing right away in your browser, or download the free desktop app for Windows, macOS or Linux. The desktop app gives better performance and higher-quality export — hardware-accelerated rendering, YouTube import, custom fonts — so it's the better choice if you're making a full karaoke video rather than just trying things out.

Step 2: Import your video or audio

Once you're in the editor, click the Import button in the top-right corner and add the video or audio file you want to turn into a karaoke video. This becomes the track you'll sync your lyrics to.

Step 3: Paste in the lyrics

Paste the song's lyrics into the input panel on the left. Remove any accidental blank lines within a verse — a blank line tells EasyKara you're starting a new verse, so a stray line break can split a verse in the wrong place. When the lyrics look right, click Confirm Lyrics to lock them in.

Step 4: Start syncing — pick word-by-word or row-by-row

Click the red Sync button and choose a sync mode. For a proper karaoke video, pick Word-by-word — it times each individual syllable, giving you the classic karaoke highlight effect. Row-by-row only times whole lines, which is faster but less precise.

Tap Space in time with the music

Once the track starts playing, press the Space bar in time with each word or syllable — EasyKara stamps the exact timing as you go, much like a rhythm game. You can always fine-tune the timing afterward on the waveform timeline.

After finishing the sync pass, your lyrics are fully timed and ready to preview — this is what a completed sync looks like.

Step 5: Export your karaoke video

When you're happy with the timing, click Export in the top-right corner and choose Export Video. EasyKara renders every frame with your lyrics, styling and audio mixed in, then gives you a finished MP4 you can download and share.

Frequently asked questions

Is EasyKara free to use for making karaoke videos?

Yes — the core editor, word-by-word lyric sync, and MP4 export are completely free, with no watermark added to your video.

Do I need video editing experience to make a karaoke video?

No. EasyKara replaces manual video editing with a keyboard-based sync workflow — you just tap Space in time with the music and the app stamps the timing for you.

Should I use the web app or the desktop app?

Both work the same way. The desktop app adds hardware-accelerated export, YouTube import, and custom fonts, so it's recommended for a polished final video.
